It’s a funny time of year for admissions folks. For all you new Bleaders out there who are starting your process, we’re trying to get to know you and provide you with valuable information. But then there is the Class of 2014. You all are hanging out there in what I call College No Man’s (or Woman’s) Land. Technically, you don’t belong to the Admissions office anymore, even though I know you, love you, and are excited that you’ll be here in the fall. Technically Co-Curricular Life is your go to peeps, and you are in their very capable and loving hands.
But you don’t KNOW how wonderful the folks in CCL are yet because, well…they sent you a packet, asked for a bunch of forms, and sent you a pretty kick-butt pillow case with our orientation events on it. They are super-duper cool (and I know you all think this because you all posted pictures of your pillow cases on Facebook–I don’t stalk, but my news feed BLEW UP!), but they don’t know you like I know you.
It’s hard, cutting apron strings, I know.
We’re going to have to, though. In a few short months I peace out to SWVA and the Northeast, and you’ll be here to do your student thing.
But, and this is a big but, we can still impart some crucial knowledge to you all before you get here. The “insiders map” of NWL, so to speak.
First stop, GAL’s take on what to pack, and what to leave home. From there, though, I would love your input–what do you want to know about this time from July through the first week or so of school?
Packing, and unpacking, however, are crucial components of travel season. I’m really trying not to fall prey to the last mintue packing that I normally do, so I have started to hoard folders and materials so tomorrow when the rental car gets here, all I have to do is load it up. Clothes and other “stuff” will just have to wait until Sunday.
