The Nicest Kids in Town

22 Sep

We are working on Day 2 in Baltimore, and let me tell you, it’s been a blast so far!  I’m very grateful to be traveling with SD–not only is it wonderful to have someone to chat with during the fair, but it’s also amazing to have someone to spend time with after the fair.  It’s amazing how lonely travel season can get–yes, we’re surrounded by wonderful people all day long, but in terms of that quality time, it’s sometimes lacking.  It’s nice to have a friend who understands what you’re going through, and someone to have good dinner conversation with.

I also have to give SD mad props because this is her first full week away from her doting husband and beautiful baby boy, Mr. L.  I can’t imagine how hard that is.  I am so proud of her for doing this with such grace and poise, and I truly appreciate her being on our admissions team.  For all you MD girls out there, you are working with a top notch counselor!

P1040552I’ve talked a bit about being greener, what to do in the area, and actually getting out there.  Today we were able to visit the Baltimore National Aquarium.  One word: FANTABULOUS!!!  Not only was it a great adventure to pursue here in Baltimore, but it really drove home for me why we need to try to be better.  For examples, sea turtles are one of the main predators of jelly fish.  However, with poaching, pollution and plastic, many species of sea turtles are endangered.  As a result, jelly fish are becoming more invasive, and you’re experiencing more nasty stings on your beach trips.  How can you help?  Use reusable bags–when plastic shopping bags make their way into the ocean, they resemble jelly fish.  Turtle tries to eat the plastic, plastic kills the sea turtle.  :-(

We’ve tried to switch in our house over to reusable bags.  but this is a more tangible reason than “it’s just better for the environment.”  I can share with JGL that we’re saving sea turtles as well.

We didn’t just have deep thoughts at the aquarium–I found a dolphin that, much like my dog Carson, loves to carry all of it’s toys in its mouth.  We also found Nemo.  I was terribly excited about that!P1040595

Good Morning, Baltimore!

20 Sep

Well, it’s really more like Good Evening Baltimore, but we’ll take what we can get :)  When I think of Baltimore, all I can think about is Hairspray, so I’m pretty stoked to see the city and the Inner Harbor for myself.  I’m here with my fab co-worker SD for the B-more NACAC college fairs and conference.  Six days of travel doing something that neither of us are terribly used to–traveling with a companion.
