Dear, Sweet, Prospective Applicants…

28 Jan

HIT. SUBMIT.

Procrastination

26 Jan

I am a chronic Procrastinator.  Always have been, and if I don’t keep myself on track that dirty habit starts to creep up and stare me square in the face.

I won’t bore you with stories of days gone by where that habit got me in trouble, like the time my Application to SBC got lost in a snow storm just days before the deadline (and back in a time when internet applications weren’t in existence).  I won’t retell how angst ridden my entire family was as a result, and how the Blizzard of 2000 pounded the Northeast, and my mom had to drive a new application to UPS so we could overnight it.  Or the little part where I got a pretty lengthy WE TOLD YOU SO lecture from both my parents, and my guidance counselor.

So if I’m not going to tell you about it, why bring it up?

Because I know you’re out there, my little should-be applicants.  Whether you’re like me and your procrastination stems from perfectionism, or if you just haven’t had time to sit down and finish your application, or if you just have been terrified to hit submit, you’re out there feeling the pressure of this February first application deadline being mere days away, not the weeks or months it felt like just yesterday.

Never fear, Future Vixens!  You are going to be just fine.  I don’t write this today to scare you or shame you into applying, I wanted to address this today on the blog because I know you can do it–I know you can find time in the next 5 days to settle down in front of your computer and hit submit.  Will it be perfect?  It might, but even if it isn’t I promise you it will be ok.

And if you’ve already done this, if you’ve already applied, heck, if you’ve already been accepted, I hope you’ll take the time to comment about HOW GOOD it feels to have this off of your shoulders, and how exciting this next part can be.

So do it, Dearest Bleaders–HIT SUBMIT!  I promise you’ll be happy you did.

Just Do It

7 Jan

Dragging your feet on submitting your application?  Don’t be like your fearless admissions counselor and wait until the last minute of the deadline, and if you need a little motivation, here you go!

Don’t fret, don’t quit, just hit submit–you’ll be happy you did, I promise!

(and for those true blue procrastinators like myself, you still have a little more time–the deadline is February 1st.)

Extended

3 Feb

Our deadline has passed, and I was so excited to see the flurry of applications hit my desk–it was almost reminiscent of all the snow flurries we’ve had of late!

But I have exciting news, Dear Readers!  With such amazing press from Forbes, the Princeton review, and the latest ginormous donation we’ve had a TON of calls and e-mails and inquiries from students who have just discovered who we are, and how we could be the perfect fit for them.

Just last week I chatted with an alumna whose daughter had been looking at conservatories, and now is seriously considering Liberal Arts Colleges.  With our ability to help her partner a well-rounded Liberal Arts background with our Studio Art Major, or our BFA program, and with the VCCA right across the street, for JJ SBC could be the perfect fit, and I’m so happy she was able to get her application in so quickly!

There are others of you out there, though, who may have just found us through these various new press releases, and you haven’t been able to get that app in.  Take heart–I’m happy to announce that we’ve extended our deadline until February 15th to be able to accomodate your application!

Have questions?  Still want to apply?  Super excited about SBC?  Drop me a line–I’d love to hear from you about your thoughts and expectations for college and chat with you about how Sweet Briar can fit into your future.

Until then, Bleaders, Happy Wednesday!
